Divers Find Skull Fragment in Gastineau Channel Posted by: Cindy on Mar 09, 2004 AD - 10:44 AM Printer Friendly Page Regardless of whether anyone really saw a giant squid pull George Tonsgard under the water he did disappear in the Gastineau Channel near Juneau, Alaska almost fifty years ago. The story of his death has become a local legend. Some say he was grabbed and pulled under the waves by a Giant Squid, others say he was simply the victim of a scuba accident. All agree that whatever happened, Tonsgard's demise was certainly dramatic. Local divers recently found a piece of a human skull near the downtown Juneau waterfront.
